Teresa in front of the Sphinx and the Pyramid of Gisa in Egypt
Meet the artist
Teresa MacGregor was born in Mainland China. She grew up in Hong Kong, studying art as a teenager, and learning about perspective, shapes, and light from a prominent local artist. She began oil and plein air painting in high school, at her studio as well as local seashores and fishing villages. Teresa migrated to the US for her college education, majoring in economics and business administration.
After graduating from college, however, her career as a computer programmer - which eventually led to a role as a successful senior IT manager for one of the world's largest investment firms - left little time to pursue art. Her passion for the arts never faded, however, and since retiring from the corporate world, Teresa has been studying silk painting with some of the country's top artists. She also adopted the Gluck Method, taught at Mission Renaissance Fine Art School in Irvine, California, to enhance her drawing and oil painting skills.
Teresa is a dynamic painter, primarily using oils and pastels. Her work includes still life, landscape, portraiture of people from diverse cultures, and animals. The unique designs of her silk dye scarves and kimonos are wearable pieces of art showcasing multiple paintings on the fabrics of each individual garment. Employing many styles, techniques and subjects of early fine art impressionism, her work often attempts to tell a story or deliver a message to the viewers.
An avid traveler, Teresa has always drawn inspiration from diverse cultures around the world. Her passion for women's fashion is reflected in the design of her hand-painted silk scarves and kimonos; rather than aimlessly follow the latest trends, these one-of-a-kind pieces are rooted in timeless, classic styles, without sacrificing personality or uniqueness.
Teresa is a member of Orange County Fine Arts and the Cottage Gallery where she exhibits and sells her work. Teresa is also an active participant in many juried art shows sponsored by the City of Irvine, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach.
